Overview

San Salvario's courtyards are full of small workshops that stopped being workshops thirty years ago. This one was a print shop until 1994 and became a loft in 2016: a single seven-metre-wide volume with the original steel roof trusses left in place and a north-facing roof light running most of its length.

North light is the point. It is even all day and it does not overheat the space in August, which is the failure mode of every south-facing loft in this city. The sleeping platform sits at the back under the lower part of the roof; the kitchen and dining run along the party wall.

Because it sits behind the building rather than on the street, it is genuinely quiet — which in San Salvario is worth checking and worth paying for.

Features

  • Original 1920s steel roof trusses exposed
  • North-facing roof light along most of the span
  • Set back off the courtyard — quiet for the district
  • Underfloor heating throughout
  • Five minutes on foot to the Parco del Valentino
  • Strong short-let and long-let demand in the street
