The Collina Torinese begins immediately behind the Gran Madre and rises to the Basilica of Superga. It is the only part of the market that sells land rather than square metres: detached villas on terraced plots, most built between 1900 and 1970, many with the city laid out below them and the Alps behind it.
Winter is the argument for it. Turin sits in a river plain that holds fog for days at a time; two hundred metres up, the fog is a white lake beneath the terrace and the sun is out.
Practicalities matter more here than anywhere else on this list. Access roads are narrow, some plots are steep enough to make a garage impossible, and heating a 1960s villa is a real number. We survey all of that before you make an offer.
